Abbie Burch
I offer tailored, one-to-one tuition sessions with pupils aged 4 to 11 years old in Ipswich, Kesgrave, and surrounding areas. I understand the importance of personalised learning in a comfortable environment. That's why I am happy to travel to your home to provide one-on-one tutoring sessions, or deliver these sessions from my home in Ipswich. My sessions are designed for in-person learning, but in some instances I can also deliver these sessions online.
I am a qualified primary school teacher with a specialism in the Early Years Foundation Stage. I have experience working with pupils in EYFS, KS1, and KS2. I also taught English as a foreign language in Thailand, holding an accredited TEFL certification.
In 2019, I achieved a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies and trained with Suffolk and Norfolk SCITT to qualify as a primary school teacher, which was my profession from 2020 to 2024. I now work in higher education as a Learning Designer, alongside tutoring.

What Do I Teach?
My Approach
As a 1:1 tutor, I focus on creating a personalised learning environment tailored to my students' needs. By conducting an initial assessment, I identify strengths and areas for development and set clear and achievable goals throughout my service. I adapt my teaching strategies based on my student's progress and encourage both interactive and independent learning skills.
I fundamentally believe that learning should be fun and engaging. I get to know each student and customise my sessions around their interests as much as possible. As 'fun' learning looks different to every child, I support a variety of learning styles.
I offer a supportive and inclusive environment by addressing any additional learning, health, or emotional needs your child may have and incorporating support for these into our learning plans.
I support anxious students by promoting a growth mindset and offering positive reinforcement to build their confidence.
Throughout my service, I offer regular check-ins with my students and their parents/guardians to ensure continuous improvement and collaboratively make adjustments to our learning plan.
Literacy
A targeted approach that builds spelling, handwriting, vocabulary, fluency, and creative writing skills.
Phonics
A focus on phonemic awareness and letter-sound relationships to support students in decoding words effectively.
Maths
Targeted exercises to build a strong foundation in number, mathematical operations, and word problems.
Reading
A combination of read-aloud and independent reading activities to build comprehension, fluency, pacing, and expression.

Initial Assessment
Free
I offer a free initial assessment. The purpose of this session is to get to know your child, their interests, and their feelings about their learning. I also use this session to discuss your hopes and needs from my tutoring sessions.

30 Minute Session
£18
These sessions are tailored to each pupil. The sessions can focus on one topic or a variety of topics and are adapted each session to meet your child's needs.
These sessions can be booked weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, and can be paid for by cash, cheque, or bank transfer.
